The best time to visit Munich
Munich is a great city to visit all year round. To avoid the crowds and mid-summer heat, we recommend visiting in shoulder season between March and May or September to October.
In late September to early October you can experience Oktoberfest, the world's largest folk festival which is famous for its delicious food, traditional Bavarian music, parades and beer tents.
If you can brave the colder temperatures in November and December, this is a great time to visit to enjoy the festivities and christmas markets.
How far in advance should you book flights to Munich?
We recommend booking flights to Munich 1-3 months in advance for favourable prices. If you are travelling during the high season or for Oktoberfest, you may want to book a little further in advance.

Where to stay in Munich
For first-time visitors to Munich, staying in Old Town (Altstadt) or Lehel is ideal for easy access to major sights. These central neighborhoods allow you to walk to attractions and are also well-served by the metro system.
Munich's public transport system is efficient, especially the metro, making it convenient to travel even if you're not staying in the heart of the city. If you're visiting during busy times like Oktoberfest, consider staying in Westend near Theresienwiese for proximity to the festival, but expect more crowds.
