The best time to visit Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a great city to visit all year round, so when you visit depends on your priorities.
Spring (March-May) is the best time to travel to Amsterdam to experience tulip season and pleasant temperatures. However during peak tulip season in mid-April, there are generally more crowds and prices rise.
The busiest and most pricey months, however, are between June and August. Despite this, the warm, sunny weather makes summer the best time to go to experience outdoor activities such as canal cruises, cycling and spending time in the parks and gardens.
For budget travellers, the best time to visit is between December and February. Although you’ll need to be prepared for cold and potentially snowy weather, there are fewer crowds and various festive events.
Autumn (September-November) is the perfect middle ground, with lower prices while the weather remains pleasant.

Where to stay in Amsterdam
If you’re visiting Amsterdam for the first time, we recommend staying in the Canal Belt (Grachtengordel) or Jordaan. Here you’ll get the quintessential Amsterdam experience, staying along the picturesque canalside, while also being within walking distance to many restaurants and bars.
If you’re seeking something more affordable, try Museumplein. It offers easy city access and great transport links, including a direct bus to the airport.
For a more local experience, consider De Pijp or Oost, both vibrant, residential areas with excellent dining and drinking spots.
